Penn State Extension financial literacy program wins national award

A financial-literacy training curriculum developed by Penn State Cooperative Extension has been recognized for excellence by the Institute for Financial Literacy.

Developed by Cathy Bowen, associate professor of agricultural and extension education, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Office of Financial Education, "Right on the Money: Talking Dollars and Sense with Parents & Kids" received the institute's 2009 Excellence In Financial Literacy Education Award. The institute is a tax exempt nonprofit organization whose mission is to make effective financial literacy education available for all American adults.

The institute advances professionalism and effectiveness in the field of financial literacy by setting the national standards for adult financial-literacy education, hosting an annual conference on financial education, maintaining the Library of Personal Finance, and administering the Center for Financial Certifications and the Center for Consumer Financial Research.
