Ed Mills wins 2010 AMSA Distinguished Teaching Award

The American Meat Science Association recently awarded its Distinguished Teaching Award to Ed Mills, associate professor of dairy and animal science.

The association, according to its website, chooses the winner based on the ability to generate interest in the meat sciences, enthusiasm for teaching and staying abreast of the latest technologies.

In the 2009-10 school year, Mills taught three Animal Products Technology  classes, teaching students about old and new chemical processes that affect the taste and quality of foods, such as meat and eggs. The classes also covered food industry laws and regulations that affect animal products.

The association also lauded Mills for his research, which focuses on improving the look, taste and safety of animal products, particularly low-fat or diet animal products.
