Remember baking chocolate chip cookies or brownies as a kid and licking the spoon afterward?
Many of us did it and never got sick, but over the past few years, a number of highly publicized cases of foodborne illness have been linked to the consumption of raw cookie dough.
That's why Penn State Extension recommends against taste sampling raw foods during their preparation if the finished product is intended to be fully cooked.
Avoidance is especially important for young children, who are normally more susceptible to food-borne illness.
