Global spam is at its lowest level since 2008 with spam from the United States accounting for 'just' 73.7% of all email. Spammers instead are sending directed emails (these attacks are called "spear phishing" and "whale phishing") where individual sets of users are targeted. We see these at Penn State in emails requesting our UserID's and passwords and if we don't send them, our accounts will be turned off. Leafsnap is an electronic field guide developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution. This free mobile app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves. Leafsnap currently includes the trees of the Northeast and will soon grow to include the trees of the entire continental United States.
The ancient symbol of Ouroboros depicts a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. It represents how certain processes are constantly re-creating themselves. Your Facebook friends can "tag" you in photographs that they upload. Facebook's new Photo Tag Suggestions feature uses facial recognition to help them identify you in their pictures. This makes it easier than ever for others to identify you on the Internet. If you're uncomfortable with this feature, you can disable the "Suggest photos of me to friends" in your privacy settings.
