If you use your personal cell phone for two-factor authentication to Penn State services, we’ve found a few reminders that may be helpful to you for the upcoming winter break. There are 2FA considerations if you get a new phone, and suggestions for success if you travel over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house – or especially if your destinations are more exotic or remote.
Penn State's two-factor authentication (2FA) is linked, for many of us, to a personally owned cell phone. If you replace your phone over the holiday break, there are steps that you might need in order to use 2FA with your new phone.
If you will be traveling to areas with limited cell service, and wish to authenticate to Penn State services with 2FA, there are pre-planned steps that you can take to simplify that process, too.
The 2FA service at Penn State is a University-level service, and so support for this is provided by the University HelpDesk, which is normally closed during the break. The article at the site below was released by Penn State's IT last December. It offers steps and tips that can help you with travel planning and/or with 2FA and a new phone. While the 2FA information is accurate, please ignore the hours of operation in the last paragraph.
