Update Oracle Java Software
As of April 27, 2012, the current version of the Oracle Java client is Version 6 Update 32.
Note: If you see the Java Update icon
or "Java Update Available" balloon in the lower right corner of the screen, the latest version of Java should be ready to install. You should go to Install Java from "Java Update Available" and begin the install. If you do not see either of these items, start with Manually Update from Control Panel.

Note: These steps are written for College of Ag Science EN (Enterprise Network) Dell computers.
Note: If your account does not have Administrator rights to do installs, you will not be able to complete any of these steps. Please contact Computer Support via the Help Request form so that Ag IT staff can apply this update.
Install Java from "Java Update Available"
Note: Please close all open programs before installing the software.
- Click the Java Update icon
in the notification area.
Note: You should see a window with "Java Update Available, Java 6 Update 29 is ready to install" appear. - Click Install. Wait for the installer to start. If needed, click Run to start the installer.
- In the Welcome to Java window, click Install.
- Please un-check any "extra" options if they appear (Ask Toolbar, Carbonite Backup, Microsoft's Bing Toolbar, MSN Toobar, or OpenOffice.org Installer). Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Wait while the program is installed. It will take several minutes. Allow the process to finish completely.
- When done, click Close.
- Go to the section to verify that the Java software is working.
Manually Update from Control Panel
- Click Start, then Control Panel.

Open the Java control panel.

When the Java control panel opens, click the Update tab.

Click Update Now.
Note: If you see the message "You already have the latest Java(TM) Platform on this system", click OK. You're done. - If an update is found, click Install. Wait for the installer to start. Click Install again.
- Click Close Programs and Continue. Click OK.
- When Java is installed, click Close.
- Go to the Verify Java Plug-in Version section to verify that the Oracle Java software is working.
Verify Java Plug-in Version
Following these steps will allow you to verify that the Java software is working.

Click Start, then Control Panel.

Open the Java control panel.

When the Java control panel opens, you will be at the General tab.

On the General tab, click the About button. The version listed should be Version 6 Update 32 (build 1.6.0_32-b05).

Click Close. Click OK to close the Java Control Panel.

Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel.

Scroll down in the list. You should see "Java(TM) 6 Update 32" listed.
Note: Both the automatic Java Update and the manual Java install should remove all but the most recent version of Java. If you see older listings for "Java(TM)" or "Java 2 ..." or "J2SE Runtime ..." you should remove them. Only "Java(TM) 6 Update 32" should be listed.
Note: To remove an old version of Java, highlight the first "Java(TM) ..." or "Java 2 ..." or "J2SE Runtime ..." listing. Click Remove. When asked if you're sure, click Yes. Repeat to remove all the "Java(TM) ..." or "Java 2 ..." or "J2SE Runtime ..." listings. - Close the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Close the Control Panel window.
Note: If you did remove old version of Java, you should Restart the computer. Otherwise, you are finished.
Note: Update Release Notes summarize changes made in all 1.6.0 update releases.
