How To Set Acrobat Distiller as default printer
It is recommended that you set your default printer to be Acrobat Distiller before you create the document. This will allow your document to use the proper page setup.
To specify Acrobat Distiller or Adobe PDF as the default printer:
- Choose Start | Printers and Faxes.
- Right-click on Acrobat Distiller or Adobe PDF, and then choose Set As Default Printer.
How To Configure to Use AdobePS printer driver
Adobe Technical Support recommends using the Adobe PostScript (AdobePS) printer driver with Acrobat Distiller. (By default, Acrobat Distiller is configured to use AdobePS during installation.) Also, configure AdobePS to send TrueType fonts as Type 42 fonts. This configuration preserves the appearance of TrueType fonts and prevents them from being substituted with Type 1 fonts.
Note: Type 42 fonts are called Native TrueType fonts in Windows XP and Windows 2000.
To configure AdobePS to send TrueType fonts as Type 42:
- Choose Start | Printers and Faxes.
- Right-click Acrobat Distiller or Adobe PDF, choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
- Click the General tab, and then click Printing Preferences.
- Click the Layout tab, and then click Advanced.
- Click the plus sign next to PostScript Options.
- Select the TrueType Font Download Option, and then choose Native TrueType from the pop-up menu.
- Click OK. Click OK. Click OK.
- Close Printers and Faxes.
How To Specify Printing Options in Word
After you set up a default printer, specify printing options in the Word Options or Print dialog box. Because Acrobat Distiller acts as the printer to create PDF files, it uses the printing options you specify.
- Open Word.
- From the Tools menu, choose Options
- Click the Print tab.
- Select Drawing Objects if documents contain line drawings (including arrows or flow charts) or graphics.
- Deselect Reverse Print Order to ensure that pages appear in the correct order in the PDF file.
- Click OK.
Note: Other printing options can affect how documents look after they are converted to PDF. Make sure that you select only those options you want to apply to the resulting PDF file.
