She is also an adjunct professor for the North Carolina State University, where she assists with a lateral entry program to certify agricultural professionals to teach in Pennsylvania. Prior to working for the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Baker spent two years in Penn State's College of Education as an assistant professor. Before that, she taught high school agriculture classes for twenty-one years and during her tenure, co-authored two nationally utilized textbooks. Also during that time, she was elected as the first female president of the national agriculture teachers' association, and was one of the few women to lead the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society.

Athough she has been recognized with a variety of professional awards, she is most proud of the Gold Level teacher award given to her this past summer by the agriculture teachers' association. This award acknowledges that five of her former high school students became agriculture instructors.

Dr. Baker resides on her family's beef cattle farm in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. In addition to her doctorate, she earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education from Penn State.
