2019 a Record for the US Apple Leader Program

2019 marked the U.S. Apple Association’s largest class of Young Apple Leaders, with twenty-one individuals from nine apple growing states representing the apple industry in Washington D.C.

My Experience as a Young Apple Leader and Learning the Fruit Industry

In 2018, Mattie Leid participated in USApples Young Apple Leader Program. She joined the apple industry after a career in health care and has found it rewarding. Her trip to the Capitol opened many doors for growth and opportunity.

2016 US Apple Young Apple Leader Program

This year proved to be successful for sixteen young members of the apple industry who participated in this year’s US Apple Association’s Capitol Hill week. The opportunity known as US Apple’s Young Apple Leader program was well attended with young members of the industry from Washington, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Idaho, and Pennsylvania.

Taking a Bite Out of Philadelphia

Penn State Extension summer intern and Young Grower Alliance member, Nettie Baugher, has spent the summer working with the Philadelphia Orchard Project, a local non-profit. Coming from a rural fruit farm and nursery in south-central Pennsylvania, this summer has been a change in perspective and a valuable learning experience for her.
