342 Food Science Building

Present: Glenn Myers, Dana Grove, Heike Betz, Diane Yoder, Heather Read, Bruce Grinder, Keith Diehl

Absent, with excuse: Colleen Bloom, Tiffany Rainey, Kimberly Ripka

Guest: Susan Rossman, sitting in on behalf of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education

Three seats remain open (Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education; and two seats from nonacademic groups)

The committee reviewed and accepted, without correction, the meeting summary of September 11, 2012.

The committee adopted, as revised, proposed Amendment F to our charter. The chair will post this amendment to the “Committee Charter” section of the committee website.

The committee discussed the need to elect a Chair-Elect for this committee year, as is mandated by our charter, but was unable to come to a conclusion. Due to the committee reorganization and the large number of new members, only one person now serving on the committee meets the requirements for election to this position. We will continue this discussion at our next monthly meeting in November.

A discussion was held regarding the upcoming All-Staff meeting on October 24. The chair will contact the Office of Human Resources to ascertain if a representative from the Career Counseling office would be available to speak briefly to staff at this upcoming meeting. It was also discussed that it would be desirable to have a representative from one of the many nonacademic service units of the college speak to staff in a “spotlight” segment at each of our future All-Staff meetings. The chair will contact the Information Technologies unit to ascertain if someone from this unit would be available to talk to staff about procedures involving the services provided by this important department.

The committee discussed items of interest concerning the college staff that will be forwarded to interim dean Dr. Barb Christ for her review and comment at our quarterly meeting with her on October 16.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
