The College of Agricultural Sciences is the latest college at Penn State to develop a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). The Dairy Production and Management MOOC, or "MOOOO-C," as it is affectionately called, joins a handful of other MOOCs offered by Penn State through Coursera, an open education platform that partners with top universities worldwide to offer courses online that anyone with an Internet connection can take - for free.

On the morning of May 22, 2015, faculty from several departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences came together to film the introductory video for the Dairy Production and Management MOOC, which will be available on the homepage for the course to entice students to enroll in the 8-week course.

Each week students enrolled in the Dairy Production and Management MOOC will learn about one area of the dairy industry through a series of short videos and supplemental readings taught by faculty with expertise in each segment of the course.

Course Segments include:

  1. Dairy Nutrition
  2. Dairy Reproduction
  3. Dairy Genetics
  4. Metabolic Disorders and Herd Health
  5. Milk Quality and Milk Hygiene
  6. Dairy Production and the Environment
  7. Forage, Production, Dairy Feeds, and Feed Additives
  8. Dairy Farm Management and Economics

The first session of the Dairy Production and Management MOOC is planned to be offered in Spring 2016 with an enrollment of upwards of fifty thousand students from all over the globe.
