Baha'i Religious Observances

All holy days begin at sunset the day before the date listed and end at sundown on the date listed. The Bahá'í calendar consists of 19 months with 19 days in each month. There are 361 days in a Bahá'í calendar year and 4 to 5 intercalary days.

01/15/17 World Religion Day
While not a Bahá'í Holy Day, World Religion Day was Established by the Bahá'ís in the USA. It is intended to foster interfaith understanding and harmony by emphasizing the common dimensions underlying all religions.

01/18/17 Feast of Sultán
Sultán is the 17th month of the Bahá'í calendar.  The English translation of Sultan is Sovereignty.

02/06/17 Feast of Mulk
Mulk is the 18th month of the Bahá'í calendar.  The English translation of Mulk  is Dominion.

02/26/17 - 02/29/17 Ayyám-i-Há
Ayyám-i-Há is a holiday that takes place during Intercalary days.  Intercalary days are the four or five days added to the calendar to adjust the Bahá'í  year to the solar cycle. This holiday is celebrated by exchanging gifts, works of charity, and public meetings.

03/01/17 Feast of  Alá
Alá is the nineteenth Bahá'í calendar month, which is also the last month in the Bahá'í calendar.  During the month of  Alá,  Bahá'ís fast from sunrise to sunset.  Alá translates to Loftiness in English.

03/20/17 Naw Ruz

Naw Ruz means "New Day" and is the Bahá'í New Year.

04/08/17 Feast of Jalál
Jalál is the second month of the Bahá’í calendar. Jalál means Glory.

04/20/17 to 05/01/17   Festival of Ridván
This 12 day festival is the holiest time for the Bahá'is. The Festival of Ridván is celebrated to acknowledge the 12 days that Bahá’u’lláh spent in the Garden of Ridván during which time he announced that he was the prophet that the Báb had foretold.

04/27/17 Feast of Jamál
Jamál is the third Bahá’í month.  Jamál is translated to mean Beauty in English.

05/16/17 Feast of Azamat
Azamat is the fourth Bahá'í month.  Azamat is translated to mean Grandeur in English.

05/23/17 Declaration of the Báb
The Bahá'í faith began on this day in 1844 with the prophet Bab, a messenger to the people of Persia (now Iran) announcing that a new prophet would soon be coming to bring peace.

05/28/17 Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh
This event commemorates the death of Bahá’u’lláh, the prophet founder of the Bahá'í faith, and is observed at 3:00 a.m., the time of his death, which occurred in 1892.

06/04/17 Feast of Núr
Núr is the fifth month in the Bahá’í calendar and translates to Light in English.

06/23/17  Feast of Rahmat

Rahmat is the sixth month in the Bahá’í calendar.  Rahmat means Mercy in English.

07/09/17 Martyrdom of the Báb
An event observed at noon to commemorate the Báb who was accused of rebelling against the government and was executed at the age of 30 in 1850.

07/12/17 Feast of Kalimát
Kalimát is the seventh month in the Baha’í calendar and translates to Words in English.

07/31/17 Feast of Kamál
Kamál is the eighth month in the Baha’í calendar and translates to Perfection in English.

08/19/17 Feast of Asmá
Asmá is the ninth month in the Baha’í calendar and translates to Names in English.

09/07/17 Feast of Izzat
Izzat is the tenth month in the Bahá’í calendar and translates to Might in English.

09/26/17 Feast of Mashíyyat
Mashíyyat is the eleventh month in the Baha’í calendar and translates to Will in English.

10/15/17 Feast of ’llm
‘llm is the twelfth month in the Bahá’í calendar. 'Ill means knowledge in English.

11/01/17 Birthday of the Báb
The Báb also known as ‘The Gate’ was born in Iran in 1819. Báha’ís come together for prayers and festivities for this Holy Day.

11/02/17 Birth of Bahá’u’lláh
Born in 1817 into one of the leading noble families of Tehran, Baha’u’lláh was called the Glory of God in Persia.

11/03/17 Feast of Qudrat
Qudrat is the thirteenth month in the Baha’í calendar and translates to Power in English.

11/22/17 Feast of Qawl
Qawl is the fourteenth month in the Baha’í calendar. Qawl means Power in English.

11/25/167ay of the Covenant
Abdu’l-Bahá was the appointed successor as well as the oldest son of Baha’u’lláh and designated this day as the ‘the Day of the Covenant’ to unite the community.

11/27/17 Ascension of Abdu'l-Bahá
Commemorates the passing of Abdu'l-Bahá in Haifa Israel in 1921.

12/11/17 Feast of Masá'íl
Masá'íl is the fifteenth month in the Bahá’í calendar and translates to Questions in English.

12/30/17 Feast of Sharaf
Sharaf is the sixteenth month in the Bahá’í calendar and translates to Honor in English.
