Layouts

Plone has many out of the box display variations and we've also added more layouts to meet content and audience demands.

The following are all of the ways you currently can display folder, page and homepage content. As we add new layouts they will be available here and all of our Plone sites. We try to only add a new variation on content display when it can assist with multiple Web sites and try to minimize one-off features.

Homepages
A homepage is only available in a few variations that is basically the front door to your site. You will not have to maintain your homepage content as information will automatically be displayed and removed based on criteria set in collections.
Folders
A folder in Plone is very similar to a folder on your desktop or a file server. It can contain any number of objects including files, folders, links, news, images and more.
Pages
A page is simply static text, images and links embedded into a single display.
Images
Images in Plone are saved directly within the Web site and can be placed in a number of standard positions.
Collections
A collection is Plone term that describe a page that display any kind of object (pages, links, folder, news, etc.) with defined criteria. Collections are often used to "roll-up" or combine similar content from across the site.
