Embedding a YouTube Video

You can include ("embed") a YouTube video in a Plone page as part of your content.

On YouTube

  • Go to the YouTube video page
  • Click the "Share" link below the video. This will expand to show additional options.
  • Click the "Embed" link in this new set of buttons.
  • Uncheck the "Show suggested videos when the video finishes" checkbox
  • Copy the HTML code in the text area (<iframe ...)

In Plone

Plone 4.1/Kupu (Extension sites)

  • Edit (or create) the Page or News Item that will contain the video
  • Put your cursor at the spot in the body text editor where you would like the video embedded
  • Click the "External link" button (globe icon) in the toolbar
  • Click the "Embed external object" tab in the popup window
  • Paste the YouTube embed code in the text area
  • In the "<iframe" code, replace the "https://www.youtube.com/" with "//www.youtube.com/" (removing the https://) to make it work with both the http:// and https:// versions of the sites.
  • Click the "OK" button. You will see a "flash placeholder" graphic.
  • Save the page

Plone 4.3/TinyMCE (College sites)

  • Edit (or create) the Page/News Item/etc. that will contain the video
  • Click the "HTML" button in the toolbar
  • In the popup, find the spot in the HTML code where the video should be embedded
  • Paste the YouTube embed code
  • In the "<iframe" code, replace the "https://www.youtube.com/" with "http://www.youtube.com/" (replacing the https://) to make it work with the http:// version of the site.
  • Click the "Update" button to save and close the popup and update the rich text editor.
  • Save the page
