Penn State Ag Alumni Society News

The Ag Alumni Society's mission is to connect, serve, and recognize alumni, students, and faculty by fostering relationships, commitment, and pride that characterizes our College. The society plays a vital role in supporting the college, students, and alumni programming. Alumni who graduated from the College of Agricultural Sciences become members of the Ag Alumni Society automatically by joining the Penn State Alumni Association.

Ag Alumni Spotlight: Alexis Barbarin, Ph.D.

Dr. Alexis Barbarin a NSF Fellow at North Carolina State University specializes in entomology, molecular ecology, pesticide efficacy and human social network analysis. She earned a B.S. in biology from Xavier University of Louisiana, and an M.Ed. in Agricultural & Extension Education and Ph.D. in Entomology from Penn State.
Ag Live Tailgate 2016 raises more than $38,000 for Student Scholarships

Held on November 26, Ag Live raised more than $38,000 through sponsorships, a live auction and a silent auction. These funds benefit the Ag Alumni Society Trustee Endowed Student Scholarship.

2016 Armsby Honor Society New Members

Nine College of Agricultural Sciences alumni and one friend of the college were inducted into the Armsby Honor Society at the annual dinner and ceremony held on Monday, November7 at the Nittany Lion Inn. The Society was created to honor alumni and friends who have demonstrated a commitment to the College of Agricultural Sciences, and to foster their continuing involvement with the college and its alumni.

2016 Outstanding Alumni Award Photo Gallery

Four alumni were recognized for their achievements with the College Outstanding Alumni Award. Named Outstanding Alumni were David Dell of Indiana; Barry Flinchbaugh of Kansas; and Fred Metzger of State College, Pa. Joel Krall, of South Lebanon, Pa., was named Outstanding Recent Alumnus, an award that honors alumni who have graduated in the last 10 years.
Ted Katsigianis '75g, '79 Ph.D. Recognized with Alumni Fellow Award

College of Agricultural Sciences alumnus, Ted Katsigianis '75g, '79 Ph.D. Animal Sciences was recognized with the lifelong title of Alumni Fellow, the highest award given by the Alumni Association. He is the vice president of agricultural sciences for The Biltmore Company.

Scott Harkcom, manager of the agronomy farm, the college's largest field research facility works more than 600 acres and manages the agronomic crops at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center

College of Agricultural Sciences alumni and students marched in the parade along side a six-horse hitch wagon, proudly holding signs for each department and handing out Celebrate Agriculture buttons and candy.

Annual Food Science Tailgate - October 1st

January 13-22, the Penn State Extension Dairy Team is hosting an agricultural tour of Costa Rica, known in Latin America for its famous coffee, strong dairy sector, pineapples and bananas. On this tour, you will enjoy the food and local culture of Costa Rica, and participate in discussions with agribusiness professionals while touring the dairy and agricultural regions of the country.

Penn State's Berkey Creamery will celebrate National Ice Cream Day, which falls on Sunday, July 17 — the last day of this year's Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts — held annually in downtown State College and on the University Park campus.
