The Ag Alumni Society's mission is to connect, serve, and recognize alumni, students, and faculty by fostering relationships, commitment, and pride that characterizes our College. The society plays a vital role in supporting the college, students, and alumni programming. Alumni who graduated from the College of Agricultural Sciences become members of the Ag Alumni Society automatically by joining the Penn State Alumni Association.

Merl Filler is not your average fire fighter. He is a smoke jumper; a highly skilled and trained individual who parachutes from a plane into deep forests to extinguish threatening wildfires. Inspired by the wonders of Pennsylvania forests, Merl Filler chose Wood Utilization at Penn State. He has extensive experience in forestry and its various pathways.

Recently, I had the honor of meeting Harry Sebring '73 Animal Sciences in class. Mr. Sebring was the guest speaker in 'Careers in Animal Science' class where he shared his experiences in the equine industry with Morgan horses. Owner of Sebring Stables, he started his business from the barn floor up, and has grown it into a prestigious family-owned operation.

Having an interest in sports, Dan Shemesh knew a career in Turfgrass Science was perfect for him. Over seeing each event at New York Red Bull Arena is a phenomenal experience. The world class stadium entertains thousands of people per event and Shemesh is responsible for making sure that everything goes smoothly before and after the events.

There are a lot of folks involved in waste management in the dairy industry. Foundry, machining, engineering, environmental management, and salesmen—the list goes on and on. It takes experts to turn wastes into a reusable product so that our world can be sustainable. In order to market these products, businesses need sales representatives to talk with farmers about how to make their farms more sustainable and have reusable waste.
