Penn State Ag Alumni Society News

The Ag Alumni Society's mission is to connect, serve, and recognize alumni, students, and faculty by fostering relationships, commitment, and pride that characterizes our College. The society plays a vital role in supporting the college, students, and alumni programming. Alumni who graduated from the College of Agricultural Sciences become members of the Ag Alumni Society automatically by joining the Penn State Alumni Association.

More than 200 ag alumni from Big Ten schools gathered in Washington, D.C., on March 3 at the National Press Club. For the fifth consecutive year, alumni and deans came together to network and advocate for funding of land-grant institutions.

The Ag Alumni Society annually offers awards to undergraduate students who have participated in a credit or non-credit internship. The deadline to submit applications is September 11 by 5:00 pm.

Roger L. Williams, executive director of the Penn State Alumni Association since 2003 and associate vice president of the University for alumni relations, has announced his retirement, effective June 30.

The Ag Alumni Society and the Ag Council co-sponsored an alumni reception and open forum to visit with the new Dean of the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Rick Roush on February 4, 2015 in Gettysburg. Over 100 alumni and friends spent an enjoyable evening full of conversation and catching up.

Held on November 29, Ag Live surpasses fundraising goal for the eight consecutive year raising more than $42,000 through sponsorships, a live auction and a silent auction. These funds will directly benefit the newly created Ag Alumni Society Trustee Endowed Scholarship.

The 2014 Armsby Honor Society celebration and new member induction took place on Friday, October, 31 with a Reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by Dinner and a Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at The Nittany Lion Inn. Dean Richard Roush was the keynote speaker.

Three alumni were recognized with the Outstanding Alumni Award and one alumnus with the Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award on October 20, 2014 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Named Outstanding Alumni were Alan Bair, Siree Chaiseri, and Calvin Ernst. Justin Runyon was named Outstanding Recent Alumnus.

Add the newest Dairymen’s Club bottle to your collection! The Penn State Dairymen’s Club announces a holiday sale of their milk bottle collection, along with the release of the new 2014 milk bottle. The new milk bottle features the student section in Beaver Stadium, commonly known as the “S-Zone.”

Kick-off for the Penn State vs. Michigan State football game has been set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 29. The tailgate begins at noon. Remember to bring your Tackle Hunger food drive donations which support the Penn State Lion's Pantry.
