Penn State Ag Alumni Society News

The Ag Alumni Society's mission is to connect, serve, and recognize alumni, students, and faculty by fostering relationships, commitment, and pride that characterizes our College. The society plays a vital role in supporting the college, students, and alumni programming. Alumni who graduated from the College of Agricultural Sciences become members of the Ag Alumni Society automatically by joining the Penn State Alumni Association.

The Ag Alumni Society and Ag Council are hosting a complimentary reception and open forum to visit with the new Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Rick Roush on Wednesday, February 4 at The Lodges at Gettysburg.

On behalf of the Ag Alumni Society, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season. The University and the College of Agricultural Sciences will be closed for the holiday starting on Wednesday, December 24 through Thursday, January 1.

Held on November 29, Ag Live surpasses fundraising goal for the eight consecutive year raising more than $42,000 through sponsorships, a live auction and a silent auction. These funds will directly benefit the newly created Ag Alumni Society Trustee Endowed Scholarship.

The 2014 Armsby Honor Society celebration and new member induction took place on Friday, October, 31 with a Reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by Dinner and a Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at The Nittany Lion Inn. Dean Richard Roush was the keynote speaker.

Three alumni were recognized with the Outstanding Alumni Award and one alumnus with the Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award on October 20, 2014 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Named Outstanding Alumni were Alan Bair, Siree Chaiseri, and Calvin Ernst. Justin Runyon was named Outstanding Recent Alumnus.

Add the newest Dairymen’s Club bottle to your collection! The Penn State Dairymen’s Club announces a holiday sale of their milk bottle collection, along with the release of the new 2014 milk bottle. The new milk bottle features the student section in Beaver Stadium, commonly known as the “S-Zone.”

Kick-off for the Penn State vs. Michigan State football game has been set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 29. The tailgate begins at noon. Remember to bring your Tackle Hunger food drive donations which support the Penn State Lion's Pantry.

Bring your donations to Ag Live on November 29 and help us Tackle Hunger at Ag Live by packing the Penn State Puller's tractor. Our goal is to collect 500 pounds of donated items. All Tackle Hunger food donations benefit Penn State's Lion's Pantry.

More than 130 industry, government employers and higher education institutions from across the country participated in the College of Ag Sciences Career Day on October 21, 2014 bringing over 250 representatives to meet and interview students for internships and full-time employment positions. Almost 44% of those employer representatives were Penn State College of Ag Sciences alumni.

The Outstanding Alumni Awards recognize alumni for their achievements and provide opportunities for recipients to interact with the college's faculty, students and other alumni. Named Outstanding Alumni were N. Alan Bair, Siree Chaiseri, and Calvin Ernst. Justin Runyon was named Outstanding Recent Alumnus, an award that honors alumni who have graduated in the last 10 years.

Gary Schroeder has two degrees from Penn State, '78 Plant Science and '80 M.S. Plant Pathology, as well as strong family ties to the University. His father, Dr. Morris Schroeder, was a long time professor in Ag & Bio Engineering who embraced the meaning of extension and can be seen at a dedication in his honor at the Pasto Agricultural Museum.
