Tarrah Geszvain, advising coordinator for the Plant Science and Landscape Contracting majors in the Department of Plant Sciences, is the recipient of the college's 2017 Excellence in Academic Advising Award.

Sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society, the award recognizes faculty members and staff for overall effectiveness in student advising, personal counseling, and individual student goal-setting and career planning. candidates are recommended by faculty, students, administrators and alumni.

Ms. Geszvain was recommended for the award by a long list of faculty, staff, current students, and alumni from the Department of Plant Sciences. Her counseling philosophy is described as a culmination of challenging students with patience and understanding, listening, mentoring, teaching, inspiring, and sharing true-life experiences. She does this in a professional manner and within the context that aligns with the vision and mission set forth by our university.

Current student, Keirstan Kure has this to say about Ms. Geszvain, "She is kind, caring, encouraging, supportive, and always available to help. Her commitment to her work and the relationships she builds with her students makes her the best at what she does.
