Student Takes On Challenges, Earns Degree And Sets Sights On Medical School

"I can honestly say it would have been easier for me to climb out of a 100-foot well, though I would not have learned nearly as much." That is how Mannaa I. Mannaa, a native of Egypt, described his dream to attend Penn State, a journey that began when he stepped off a plane at University Park Airport on a frigid day in January 2005 and continues today as he pursues a goal of earning a medical doctorate.

Wayne Martenas '74 Ag Eng, a very active volunteer leader and philanthropic supporter of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State Extension, along with his wife, Marian McKeegan Martenas, have pledged $250,000 in current and future gifts through their estate, to be divided among a new endowment, an existing endowment, a new building and an existing scholarship fund.

Alumni Society Prepares Students for Career Day

Alumni and industry professionals shared valuable knowledge and expert advice on resume building and networking. The goal of the Ag Alumni Society hosted Career Workshop is to prepare students for Career Day. Students had the opportunity to attend a Resume Review Session, a presentation titled "The Art of Networking", and a heavy hors d'oeuvres Networking Reception.

The Alumni Society’s mission in 2017 is as up-to-date and meaningful today as it was when the society was created 50 years ago in 1967 under the leadership of Dean Russell Larson. The Ag Alumni Society has more than 31,000 living alumni worldwide, many of these alumni have volunteered their time and talents to create a vibrant alumni society that builds and sustains lifelong relationships between alumni and our College.

Animal Science Major Gabel Stands Out from the Herd

College alumnus Samuel Hayes Jr. selected as a 2017 Penn State Distinguished Alumnus

A resident of Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania, Hayes is a former secretary of agriculture for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a retired state representative. He earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and industry in 1964 from the College of Agricultural Sciences and his master’s degree in earth sciences in 1965 from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor presented by the University to its alumni.
Penn State Equine Program Alumni

Alumni interested in starting a Penn State Equine Program Alumni Group started a facebook page collecting over 250 followers and held their first meeting at the Penn State Quarter Horse Sale on April 29, 2017. They also raised $1,600 for the Ward Studebaker Endowment in 10 days that was presented at the sale.

Jimmy Frisbie, an Immunology and Infectious Diseases major with a minor in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from Waynesboro, Virginia is the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Senior Award which is sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society and the Coaly Society. This award honors the senior who best balances outstanding academics, extracurricular activities, work experience and communication skills.
