Join the AEC this Summer in the Chiques Creek Watershed

The AEC and Chiques Creek Re-envisioned partners are offering several events this summer to promote conservation practices and clean water in the Chiques watershed in Lancaster County.

The AEC is facilitating Chiques Creek Re-envisioned, a robust and diverse partnership working together to improve water quality in the Chiques Creek watershed in Lancaster County. Funded by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the partnership is bringing a host of education and outreach events to the watershed this summer. Upcoming events include:

Penn State Extension Pond and Lake Management Workshop
July 13, 2017, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Graybill Farm, 367 Doe Run Road, Manheim
Learn about the various cycles in your pond, how to control weeds and algae, and the value of buffer strips to protect pond health.

Penn State Extension Summer Garden Experience
July 22, 2017, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Southeast Ag Research & Education Center (SEAREC), 1446 Auction Road, Manheim
Learn what plants are best for attracting pollinators and beneficial insects to your garden and landscape, how to manage stormwater through gardening and landscaping, other gardening tips, and the latest in horticultural and agronomic research from Penn State. Featured speaker is Doug Tallamy, the national-recognized author of Bringing Nature Home and The Living Landscape.

Penn State Extension Equine Pasture Walk
August 2, 2017, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Elm Ridge Farm, 373 Elm Road, Lititz
Learn about environmental stewardship and farm management for small acreage horse farms as we tour Elm Ridge Farm owned by Wayne and Marian Martenas. See examples of manure storage, sacrifice lots, rotational grazing and riparian buffers. Sharpen skills at forage and weed identification, evaluating pastures, and soil testing with hands-on activities.

Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance Chiques Creek Stomp
